Ed Codish was born in New York City in 1940. He studied with Ike Traschen and George Starbuck, receiving his BA from NYU and his Masters degree from the Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa. He taught at universities in the US and Israel, as well as at Jewish day schools. In addition to his own poetry, he has translated much Hebrew poetry into English and has written and published essays on the religious philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas. Ed Codish lives in Pardesiya, Israel, with his wife, Susann. Their son, Eitan, is also a widely published poet. Their daughter, Idit, has published short fiction.
